What is the Formula?

When people see your growth, your blessing, your increase, they want to know how to do the same thing. It could be that you just bought a new car or a house that is seemingly above your financial means. It could even be that you were asked to attend an exclusive event with your job, when you normally do not get invited to such events. Perhaps you met a gorgeous someone of a romantic interest, and he/she is a cut above the other relationships you have encountered. "How did you do that?" "Where did you meet him?" "What made the boss ask you to go to the 4-day conference in Las Vegas?" People want to know the formula, so that they can duplicate what you did and get the same results.

The blunt reality is many times, the exact way that we do most of what we do cannot be duplicated. People mistake tools for rules. They instinctively believe that if they use your same formula, they will get your same result. What they should be told is: "I can help you access some of the tools that I used, but results are not guaranteed." You still have to walk it out for yourself in order to get what you need for You! Doing what one person does, the exact same way, may get their results, but how would that 'fit' on you. Suppose I wanted to get a new car like someone else has. I could go to the same dealership and work with the same salesperson. My outcome will not be the same as the other person's. Variables like credit, down payment, trade-in values, financing, and leasing will skew the outcome for sure. However, what about the relationship between the salesperson and the previous buyer? What if the first buyer was a great negotiator? For that matter, what if I lacked the confidence of the first buyer, and the salesperson ate me up alive?

In life there are constants, and there are variables. Our awareness of them and how we anticipate them can often determine how significantly they impact our lives.

So what do you do?

Use wisdom and proceed with caution. There is no harm in knowing how someone achieved greatness or obtained niceties of life. In fact, it's great when someone can share how he/she made a great stride in their life. At the same time, you must consider that you may not always be able to morph their success into your personal turnkey system. You made need to make some alterations to the plan. You may need to reroute the plan. Knowing how someone else attained something shows that it can be done. Actually taking the necessary steps to achieve the same for yourself may be a variation of their method or a different path altogether, if it is also meant for you.

If you are in need of a strategy, you don't have to peak over anyone's shoulder. Everyone can travel the journey of success, though few accept the challenge. You will find that the journey will require creativity, ingenuity, and strategy.
