About Last Night...I was Coach Thelma

Last night I dreamed that I was Thelma Harper, Business Coach.
Seriously.
In my dream, I had my matronly attire:
A nicely ironed house dress, harnessed by an apron and complimented with a simple string of pearls. Yes, I even had the hand-cut hosiery that were rolled down to form knee highs that were tied in a knot at the inner knee.
Jazzy, huh??
I even had on my comfy orthopedic shoes that I often wore when I was on the nurse’s guild in my church growing up. (Real shoes guys!)
In this dream, I was working with a group of elderly women, teaching them how to start online businesses. Iola, my best friend, said she wanted to start a business, but she was not sure of her ideal client. All I kept ranting was (in my Thelma voice) “If you don’t know who you're helping, what the hell are you gonna give 'em?
I woke up, realizing I had fallen asleep with the TV on. (Seriously, does this show still air?). I was sending a copy of my “Who Is She?” Ideal Client Template to one of my new coaches who was having difficulty knowing, well…her ideal client.
In all truthfulness, I blame it on the brown-sugar glazed salmon and spinach. I really pigged out on it last night at dinner and fell asleep at the computer.
Right before sitting down to dinner, I received an urgent message from a client, who requested a one-on-one session because she was frustrated with herself. As a new life coach, she was having difficulty identifying her ideal client. She had no idea who she specifically wanted to help.
Ladies, let me pause to offer this grain of wisdom to all.
(in my Thelma voice) “If you don’t know who you're helping, what the hell are you gonna give 'em?

Comically put, but true.
If you offer a general service to the general public, it’s the same as standing in front of a fast food restaurant selling individual bottles of water for a dollar. What’s the purpose, right?
Whether you are still formatting how you want your business to look, or if you are struggling to get your business to the level of earning $5K, consistently each month, you must know who your customer is.
Your entire business, message, product, services, sales and support revolve around attracting and serving this narrowly defined person – your ideal client.
At the heart of each service and product, the image of your client should be before you.
The one disadvantage of an online business is not having authentic face-to-face with our clients. However, that should never be a deterrent. By having an image of your client – a specific, well-defined profile of your client, you are still able to effectively connect with her each and every time your business offers a service or a product.
If you are developing your exit plan from your current job or have an existing business earning less than $5K/month, you want to be absolutely clear you have narrowed your focus on your ideal client.
If you have doubt, take a moment to review “Who is She?” Ideal Client Template. Once you have her image solidified, you will hit the nail on the head every time. What she wants. What she needs. Her struggles. The exact cure.
Ahh...smooth sailing.
