Keep Waiting or Start Celebrating?

Looking back…wow! Why did I wait??
I remember being at home with my son, who was almost 2. I had him on a set routine, so by 8:00 in the evening, he was fed, bathed, and fast asleep. It was in those quiet times that I assessed my life. And while my son was (and still is) the most beautiful thing in my life, I knew I was supposed to do so much more.
I earned degrees, switched jobs, and did all that I could to “better” myself. At the same time, I still worked in toxic environments, dodging hate-love, knife-in-my-back relationships. At least I tried to dodge them.
Along the way, I accumulated a lot of compressed hurts and regrets. Until I finally got real with myself. “This ain’t it. It’s time to go.” Glancing back, I can laugh, but in the middle of it, I was suffocating. I was stressed. I dreaded looking at the building. I was miserable. And yes, I worked in one of the most noble and highly regarded professions!
I came to realize that it wasn’t simply because of poor leadership, two-faced employees, or poor benefits. It was me, misaligned with my purpose and the desire to use my talents and skills in my own unique way. I was in the wrong place doing the right thing at the wrong time. Miserable.
Fast forward.
That was then and this is now. Glass of wine in hand. Peace of mind. Contentment. In fact, I wake up earlier than I used to and am excited about what the day holds. I know that I am focused on my purpose. I know I am serving who I am supposed to serve. I shine from the inside out, and I love it.
How about you? Do you have an aching inside of you saying there is more that you should be doing? Walking outside of where you are called to be is pure hell…even in the most honorable of careers. No amount of degrees or training can mute the alarms going off inside of you.
